Even if the import of legacy files is completed it will also be necessary in the future to import files, documents and information from external resources, vendors and customers into the new system.
CIDEON Import PDM carries out an automatic import of data, files and documents according to SAP®-DMS. This procedure allows various types of documents such as CAD files, TIF, PDF and Office documents, etc. to be imported. A Document Info Record (DIR) is created for each document. Several documents can also be allocated to one DIR (e.g. CAD drawings and the accompanying TIF conversion).
Support to analyze, consolidate and clean your 3D CAD files
It is especially necessary for 3D CAD systems to create document hierarchies and structures in SAP. CIDEON Import PDM utilizes the original CAD system to analyze the assembly and file structure to create the related structure in SAP. That makes sure that during the import process the system will recognize if a jointly used part will be imported only once, even if it is used in different assemblies. CIDEON Import PDM changes the link in the assembly and makes sure that it will use the stored part already in SAP.

Batch Import or Migration on demand?
To get a huge amount of files migrated CIDEON Import PDM can be used not only in batch mode but is also able to balance the load performance on multiple computers in a network to import the files in parallel. This makes it possible to import even larger amount of files over a weekend or in few days into the SAP system. However, CIDEON Import PDM comes with a graphical interface and every CAD user is able to use it on demand. This gives the project team the flexibility to import files step by step. Because the configuration can be stored in profiles it is possible to give the CAD user the responsibility to import files based on already configured rules. Every CAD user will be able to import exactly what he needs for his work and because CIDEON Import PDM writes all actions in a database it will make sure that files will be imported only once.CIDEON Import PDM and SAP PLM
It is fundamental for the import of data, files and documents into SAP to be able to create the appropriate objects in SAP (e.g. Document Info Record, Material Master, Bill of Material, etc). Because CIDEON Import PDM works with the original CAD system it is possible to use the CAD file properties or attributes to fill fields in SAP. With CIDEON Import PDM it is possible to collect information from databases, data management systems and the CAD systems to prepare the Metadata for the import process.It is necessary to mention that what works for CAD files also works for other files like MSOffice, PDF, TIFF etc.
