Eisenbahn-Bau- und Betriebsgesellschaft Pressnitztalbahn mbH intends to convert three historic passenger coaches. Within the scope of this conversion, the vehicles are to be equipped with two wheelchair lifts each, to facilitate the transport of persons with limited mobility and to establish barrier-free access in the Rügensche BäderBahn rail network.

We at cideon engineering are designing and developing the fire protection and evacuation concept, including documentation. We will implement the concept and support the approval process for a wheelchair accessible passenger coach.

The conversion is being carried out in accordance with the railway construction and operating regulations for narrow-gauge railways, with the aim of preserving the existing stock and the external appearance of the historic vehicles.

Our conversion concept provides for the following measures necessary for approval:

  • Development of a new vehicle layout
  • Installation of two additional double-leaf swing doors
  • Installation of two linear wheelchair lifts
  • Installation of a system to control the swing doors and wheelchair lifts
  • Installation of a battery power supply system

As part of our conversion concept, we were able to determine the technical feasibility of installing a wheelchair lift system in the historic RüBB vehicles. We were also able to demonstrate the safety of staff, passengers and vehicles in the event of a fire.

We look forward to the continuing development of this project!
